santa’s ghetto 2008…

06Dec08

christmas decorations, holiday cheer, work party’s and all that shebang usually makes me think of one thing… Santa’s Ghetto.

My friends and I have been going to these things for ages and every time we’ve been it’s been great.  Usually because we go and get beered up in London afterwards but that’s beside the point.

Last year Banksy and his ghetto decided to move to Bethlehem, not sure of the exact reasoning behind this and I thought it was just a rumour when i first heard about it, but it seemed to attract a large audience despite the distance.

The ghetto managed to raise around 1 million dollars and this money is being put to some great uses.

First off, they’re paying for 30 kids to get through uni.  Taking care of tuition fees, accommodation and other costs.  These kids would never be given any opportunity like this as they come from poor refugee camps in Bethlehem with little or no cash.

Part of the money is also going to the Wi’am Project which is a community based project, a non-governmental organisation, to help pay for materials and staff costs.

The rest of the cash has been placed in a trust fund that Banksy has no access too and will be used throughout the next few years on various projects.

I haven’t heard what’s going on this year for the ghetto but I’m sure that it will be another great success and hopefully the money raised will be put to good causes again.

If you know what’s going on, hook a brother up and send me a message…

agostina - a typeface from you work for them

02Dec08

inspirational stock artwork (and much more!) site YouWorkForThem have just released a stunning new typeface called agostina. here’s what they have to say about it.

Agostina is a unique typeface in many ways. The obvious being that is is a Sans-Serif typeface that contains both beginning caps and ending lowercase swash letters. This instantly gives endless typographic possibilities to the user. Agostina takes advantage of the OpenType font format that opens further exploration with a full latin and limited alternate characters as well. With almost 300 characters, Agostina is a workhorse and a must own typeface.

it’s a good looking font you’ll have to agree! whilst browsing the site i spotted another stunner, thinaire unicase, by travis stearns of I Am Mint Condition. this one’s a hand set font, so not installable as a system font but still as useable as any other font.

YouWorkForThem is one of my favourite sites and has a collection of some of the freshest and finest stock vectors, photos, brushes, images, fonts and much more. their site is well worth exploring, everythings incredibly reasonably priced and they’ve even got a nice selection of freebies to keep everybody happy and hungry for more!
